Abstract:
This report describes a 1987 project done in an attempt to understand the migration and stock identity of the king and Spanish mackerel in the Gulf of Mexico. The goal was to report historical landings data and other pertinent information, obtain specimens for electrophoresis and tag king and Spanish mackerel at specific Mexican locations. These locations were chosen so that the tagging effort corresponded with mackerel migration patterns off Mexico. Tagging efforts were concentrated off Yucatan in the winter, Veracruz in the spring, Tamaulipas in the summer and again off Veracruz in the fall.
