Abstract:
The project objectives include determining the distribution, concentration and persistence of the mosquito adulticides formulations, permethrin and dibrom, applied to DOI-managed lands in the Florida Keys, Monroe County, Florida; and to provide pesticide reside analyses in concert with a companion laboratory exposure project, carried out by Dr. Gary Rand of Florida International University on surrogate butterfly adults and larvae, to assess toxic impacts from direct and indirect exposure. This report focuses on activities from September 1, 2007 - August 31, 2008, including results of monitoring pesticide residues in the Key Deer National Refuge on Big Pine Key, Florida, and analysis of standard pesticide solutions and dosed leaves and caterpillars during the controlled laboratory risk assessment tests at FIU.
