dc.description.abstract |
Lyngbya spp. are bloom-forming, toxic cyanobacteria that impact coral reefs through smothering of corals and other benthic organisms and by producing biologically active secondary metabolites that can impact grazers and incidental filter-feeders. Project mapped bloom occurence and extent around Florida reefs, explored nutrient sources, and identified regimes initiating and maintaining toxic cyanobacterial blooms, and assessed Lyngbya spp. prevalence and impact upon coral reef organisms. |
