PARAFAC Model Development of EEM Data for the University of South Florida.

Abstract

The data processing and model development was performed under contract to the University of South Florida as a sub-agreement (#2500-0044-00-A) to “Distribution & Cycling of Dissolved Organic Carbon & Colored Dissolved Organic Carbon on the West Florida Shelf”. The prime contract was funded by the Office of Naval Research, Department of the Navy. Under this sub-agreement, fluorescence data from 342 samples were subjected to PARAFAC statistical modeling to determine the potential number of fluorescent features and the quantitative loadings of such features that could be used to model the sample pool. Data were processed, three to eight factor models were assessed, and results provided. In a different approach, a similarity matrix comparing all samples pair-wise was used to identify those samples most different from one another and to identify a restricted database on which similar modeling investigations could be performed.
