Abstract:
The Manatee River is a prime source of potable water for the residents of Manatee County. Located in the northern section of the county, the Lake Manatee Reservoir, approximately 26 miles upstream from the termination of the river in Tampa Bay, of the county's water supply. The lower half of the river below the dam is wide and slow moving, being strongly influenced by tidal cycles. The banks of this portion of the river have been heavily developed, primarily bordered with single family residences.
