Abstract:
Studies of recreational boating activity continue to be an important management tool for manatee protection. Boats striking manatees account for 25-30 percent of the annual mortality,(Florida Marine Research Institute data), representing a significant number of deaths in Florida each year (81, 95, and 73 deaths in 2001, 2002, and 2003 respectively).
