The collection includes transcribed field journals written by Charles M. Breder, Jr. (1897-1983). Dr Breder, a behavioral ichthyologist, wrote more than 160 papers and books, covering an array of field and laboratory investigations, and systematic and distributional studies. With only a high school education, he claimed that all he learned about biology and ichthyology was from the Newark Public Library.
