Abstract:
The goal of this one-year study was to characterize recreational boating activity in Lemon Bay, Florida, prior to the establishment of new boat speed regulations proposed for the area. Three specific tasks were accomplished during this study. These tasks included fixed point surveys to evaluate and characterize current boater behavior along both regulated and unregulated portions of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW); aerial video surveys to analyze temporal and spatial patterns in recreational boat use; and ramp surveys which characterized selection and use of boat ramps in Charlotte and Lee Counties. Results of the study are summarized.
