Abstract:
This report describes an environmental monitoring program of the Kings Bay, Georgia, Naval Submarine Base (SUBBASE)and the surrounding estuary that was conducted from July 1989 to June 1990. Sampling was conducted. No dredging activity was noted during any of the samplings and the year was marked by the receipt of over 20 inches of rainfall during September 1989. Water quality of estuarine and surface runoff stations was determined quarterly and a series of shallow monitor wells was sampled annually. Parameters included physical data, nutrients, demands, and selected metals. Benthic infauna were examined at the estuarine stations semi-annually and tissues of hard clams were analyzed to evaluate the bioaccumulation of selected metals and organics.
