Sea Turtle Conservation Program, 1985 Report II

Abstract

This report summarizes the 1984 activities of the Sea Turtle Program at Mote Marine laboratory (MML). 1984 activities included the monitoring of the loggerhead (Caretta caretta) sea turtle population in Sarasota County, Florida, South Longboat Key to Manasota Key. Included in the program was the nesting survey conducted by volunteers reporting to MML, relocation of endangered nests to hatcheries on the respective Keys; continued information dispersal about loggerheads to the general public through newspaper articles, telephone calls, and lectures; a contract for autopsies on dead turtles for determination of death from ingestion of artificial seaweed; and reports to the National Marine Fisheries Services stranding network of dead sea turtles.
