dc.description.abstract On October 1, 1992, a permit was approved to allow nourishment of 9.8 miles of Longboat Key beach, Florida, and imposed several special permit conditions. One of the special conditions seeks to prevent adverse impacts to marine turtles. Longboat Key beaches host a significant nesting population of Caretta caretta (loggerhead turtle). This report summarizes measures taken to address these special permit conditions, to document the marine turtle protection measures, nesting activity, and nest success for Sarasota County portion, and results of sand compactness monitoring for the entire Sarasota/Manatee County length of Longboat Key for the initial post project nesting season.
