Abstract:
This environmental studies bibliography was prepared to support the development of a management plan for the tidal Loxahatchee
River and estuary. Coverage is mostly limited to recent literature on the water-resources and environmental quality of
the Loxahatchee River proper. However, peripheral studies that were frequently cited by principle references or thought to be significant to management plan development tasks are also included.
Most of the citations in this bibliography came from the bibliographies of local, regional, and federal government reports, consultant's reports, and environmental impact studies. Indexes and catalogs of government publications, such as the U.S.
Geological Survey's publications index, were also invaluable resources. Additional citations came from DIALOG Information
Service's BIOSIS Previews, Aquatic Science Abstracts, Georef, Enviroline, Environmental Bibliography, Oceanic Abstracts, Water
Resources Abstracts, Waternet, PAIS, and NTIS databases . The Florida Department of Environmental Regulation's water-resources
database and the Mote Marine Laboratory library were also searched for pertinent literature.
The 155 unique citations in this bibliography are presented in 12
non-exclusive categories: submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV); oysters; shorelines: sediments; salinity; manatees; recreation;
water quality; management; canal 18: hydrology: and miscellaneous references. The popular Council of Biology Editors date-after-author bibliographic style is used.
