dc.description.abstract This item is part of a series of operational records from the Zoological Research Supply Company, specifically regarding permits and licenses. The ZRS served as the profit-making subsidiary of the Bass Biological Laboratory, and operated in the mid to late 1930s and early 1940s. This letter to R. L. Dowling discusses the research by E. M. K. Geiling on how aquatic mammals, particularly manatees, can dispose of CO2 without frequent respiration. The letter also discusses the ethics of keeping a manatee captive for research, and the logistical factors involved. en_US
