Abstract:
This project was undertaken to address the concern for possible adverse ecological impact from applications of the mosquito larvicide, abate (temephos) on State-owned saltmarsh lands. This is being investigated by monitoring populations of benthic macroinfauna and the distribution and persistence of temephos, before and following routine applications of the larvicide on State-owned saltmarsh wetlands of Cape Coral, Lee County, Florida. Two sets of study sites were established, based on habitat and the history of mosquito breeding in each site.
