dc.description.abstract This report describes the 1992 Adopt-a-Shore Program of Sarasota County, coordinated by Mote Marine Laboratory. The program included three countywide cleanups, January 25, April 25 and September 18, 1992. Litter was reduced throughout the county during these cleanups. An array of educational litter prevention efforts also took place. A countywide cleanliness ethic was built and sustained by educating students, educators and the general public of the dangers and problems that shoreline pollution causes. Students were educated during instructional field trips at Mote and school visitations. Educators were familiarized with marine debris educational materials during an in-service and a marine biology college credit course. The general public's awareness was raised through presentations at meeting places, exhibits at events and displays at shopping malls. en
