dc.description.abstract	In October 1992, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection acquired a permit for a beach nourishment project on Longboat Key, Florida. This permit allowed the nourishment of 9.8 miles of Longboat Key beach and imposed several permit conditions. One of the special conditions seeks to prevent adverse impacts to marine turtles, in particular, the loggerhead turtle. This report summarizes measures taken by Mote Marine Laboratory to address this issue. Beginning May 1, 1994 daily monitoring of the Sarasota County beach portion of Longboat Key was begun. This report documents the marine turtle protection measures, nesting activity, and nest success for the first year following the initial beach nourishment project.	en
