dc.description.abstract Snook was identified as a species for stock enhancement in Florida. Because of the need to assess hatcheries as an enhancement tool, studies were performed at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Stock Enhancement Research Facility Port Manatee Hatchery and at Mote Marine Laboratory to take advantage of the most appropriate facilities to address each problem. This report describes research conducted from July 1, 1994 through May 31, 1995. The primary areas of research initiated in the first year of Phase I were to determine if adult snook were reproductively mature and if they could be spawned; compare the effects of two spawning hormones, human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) and salmon gonadotrophin releasing hormone, Ovaprim (GnRH) on snook ovulation; measure total lipid content of snook eggs as a means of evaluating egg quality; and evaluate diets for optimum survival and growth of larval snook. en
