Abstract:
This item is part of a series of materials relating to a publication called the "Englewood Trade Wind," which was produced and distributed by the Zoological Research Supply Company (ZRS). The ZRS served as the profit-making subsidiary of the Bass Biological Laboratory, and operated in the mid to late 1930s and early 1940s. The Englewood Trade Wind publication featured articles of local and biological interest as well as pricing and descriptions for various products sold by the ZRS. The publication ceased in the early 1940s. This draft of the September 1940, volume 1, number 1 issue of the Englewood Trade Wind includes the layout of the articles to be included, titles, and word counts. Some of the articles in this draft appear in the published issue while others are absent. Article titles listed in this item include: "ZRS adds new supply base at Key West for aquarium material," "Maintaining sea water aquariums not difficult with right equipment," "Game fish control," "This month's fish story," "A letter from the old bug man," "Interesting if true: story on Key West roaches that 'ate' cannons," "Snakes alive," "Nothing new under the sun?" and "Gee whiz! Department." This draft also includes information on the publication of the Trade Wind and the species available for purchase through the ZRS. This draft mentions that the publication is edited by Stewart Springer.
