Abstract:
This report includes information on research conducted by Mote Marine Laboratory from July 1, 1993 through May 16, 1994. There were three primary areas of research: 1) stock assessment studies in Bowless Creek, Sarasota Bay, included releasing Florida Marine Research Institute hatchery-produced red drum, monitoring abiotic and biotic parameters in the study area, and performing red drum gut content analysis; 2) studies with red grouper, included monitoring blood steroid levels and gonad development in control and methyltestosterone treated fish, developing optimum diet and maintenance procedures, documenting parasites found on wild caught fish, and providing a bibliography pertaining to the culture of Serranides; and 3) collection and spawning of snook and preparing for snook diet experiments, including culture of phytoplankton and rotifers.
