Abstract:
This report describes the 1990 contract year activities of the Florida Department of Natural Resources/Mote Marine Laboratory Fish Stock Enhancement Research Project. During this year emphasis was placed on rearing larval snook by using the head-start/pre-feeding culture methods. These methods incorporated the need for a larval rearing system as well as systems and procedures for the intensive culture of phytoplankton and rotifers. The involvement by Mote Marine Laboratory in this project included the develolpment and implementation of intensive phytoplankton and rotifer culture systems, provision of food items to larval rearing tanks and provision of staff assistance in larval snook rearing maintenance and monitoring. Also, several rearing trials were conducted along with two acute upper thermal temperature experiments, as well as fish harvest and tagging activities.
