dc.description.abstract This report provides information on the Year of the Gulf of Mexico program, which was conceptualized as a regional public service/public education program and was designed to communicate that the Gulf is an important asset for the entire United States. The effort began in July 1992 and was completed December 31, 1993. Three main thrusts formed the basis of all communications: the cooperative posture of the communications effort, the organization of the communications plan, and the readiness of the public. The goals were to promote a sense of stewardship among Gulf users, to foster public/private partnerships for the wise use of Gulf resources, to expand public awareness and knowledge of the importance of the Gulf, and to recognize efforts to preserve the Gulf. en
