dc.description.abstract 5-9 thousand barrels of number 6 fuel oil and an undetermined amount of jet fuel was spilled in Tampa Bay on August 10, 1993 following the collision of the freighter Balsa 37 with the barges Ocean 255 and B155. Shifting winds and currents moved the majority of the spilled oil out of Tampa Bay and into the Gulf of Mexico and back to the beaches. Water samples were collected to evaluate the extent of the oil contamination and to estimate its potential for environmental impact. en
