Impacts of the 1998 coral bleaching event on tourism in El Nido, Philippines.

Abstract

Severe coral bleaching during the summer of 1998 has led to 30-50% coral mortality in the Philippine town of El Nido (Bacuit Bay) on the island of Palawan. Given the importance of tourism in this area, the logical question arises what the impact is of bleaching on tourism. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the economic tourism losses of the 1998 bleaching episode and subsequent coral mortality. Includes blank sample of "SURVEY FOR TOURISTS IN EL NIDO."
