Assessment of the impact of red tides on recreational fisheries species. Annual report March 1987 - February 1988.

Abstract

This report describes the results of a one year project from March 1987 - February 1988, concerning the toxicity of red tide on different species of fish. The study was completed in three phases. Phase I, February 1987 - June 1987, was a broad range, preliminary study directed toward determining the best approach of finding the relative toxicity of P. brevis toxins with regards to a benthic fish, spot, and a non-benthic representative, spotfin mojarra. Phase II, June 1987 - November 1987, focused on the affects of red tide exposure on the common snook. Phase III used the preliminary results from Phase I to further test toxicity of different fish species to red tide by the use of the KC5024 tests. Results of these tests and conclusions are discussed.
