Mote Marine Laboratory (MML) was charged in May 1983 by the Sarasota County Office of Coastal Zone Management to perform an ecological reconnaissance of the Grand Canal, a network of waterways on the north end of Siesta Key, Florida. Tasks included physical, hydrographic and biological reconnaissance.
